01

Do I have to pay dues to be a member of Heritage PTO?

No, if you are a parent or guardian of a Heritage student or a Heritage teacher or staff member you are already a valued member of the Heritage PTO. We ask that everyone volunteer at least 2 hours during the school year and do what they can to support Heritage PTO fundraisers.

02

What does the PTO do?

The PTO exists to support the school. The PTO raises money to help fill the gaps in funding and provide some of the extras that the district can’t or won’t provide. The PTO aims to sponsor special family events almost every month of the year. Our goal is to make Heritage a great place to go to school, and someplace that our students and families are proud to be part of.

03

Can I bring my children with me to PTO meetings?

Yes, we ask that you keep children 2 and under (or children who are not potty trained) with you during the meeting, but there is an adult supervised Open Gym available for children 3 and over (and potty trained) during the PTO meeting. We also provide dinner and snacks during the meeting.

04

Why is the PTO important?

Research has shown that academic scores improve when parents and teachers unite in caring about students and wanting to do everything possible to enable them go on and have successful lives. Research also shows that along with the improvement in academic scores both staff and family satisfaction increases as parents and teachers work together. The PTO does raise funds to provide some of the needed extras around the school, but our larger goal is for it to be an organization where parents and teachers meet to improve outcomes for the kids we care about.

05

What is CAC (Citizens Advisory Council)?

The Citizens’ Advisory Council is a group of parents and citizens that live within District U-46 who represents the needs, ideas and concerns of our schools and communities and assists the Board of Education in providing the best possible education for all students. The CAC serves as one of the voices for the community at a district level. The Citizens’ Advisory Council is a unique group in that we have an up-close opportunity to positively impact our district’s future through active citizen involvement. There are few other school systems that welcome such direct involvement by parents and citizens. The council is also a great way to keep up-to-date on what is happening in the district. As a member, you have the opportunity to interact with members of the Board of Education and U-46 staff, as well as other interested citizens and parents, and learn more about district initiatives and happenings through updates at the monthly General Council Meetings.
